In order to rationalise the denominator, we first multiply the numerator and denominator by the conjugate of the denominator

{ Conjugate simply means the denominator but with negative sign , for example if the denominator is x+y , the conjugate would be x-y }

Properties used
• (a+b) squared = a square + b square + 2ab
• (a+b)(a-b) = a square - b square

Hope this helps you
