a. 450g:2 1/4 kg:3.6kg = 1: 5: 8

b. 45min : 900 sec : 1/2 hour = 3: 1: 2

Given:

a. 450 g: 2250 g: 3600 g

b. 45min : 900 sec : 1/2 hour

To find:

Simplify the given ratios.

Solution:

Let's know about Ratios

Ratio:

In mathematics, Ratio is a term that is used to compare two or more numbers. It is used to express how big or how small a quantity is when compared to another. In a ratio, two quantities with the same units will be compared using division.

Given a. 450g: 2 1/4 kg: 3.6kg

Before, simplifying the ratio, make sure that the given quantities have the same units

As we know 1 kg = 1000 g

⇒ 2 1/4 kg = 2 × 1000 + (1/4)(1000) = 2000 + 250 = 2250 g

⇒ 3.6kg = 3.6 × 1000 = 3600 g

Then the given ratio will be

⇒ 450 g: 2250 g: 3600 g

⇒ 9: 45: 72     [ divided by 50 ]

⇒ 1: 5: 8

Therefore,

450 g: 2250 g: 3600 g = 1: 5: 8

b. 45min : 900 sec : 1/2 hour

As we know 1 min = 60 sec and 1 hr = 3600 sec

⇒ 45min = 45 × 60 = 2700

⇒ 1/2 hour = (1/2)(3600) = 1800

Then given ratio will be

⇒ 2700 sec:  900 sec: 1800 sec

⇒ 27: 9: 18     [ divided by 100 ]

⇒ 3: 1: 2         [ divided by 9 ]

Therefore,

45min : 900 sec : 1/2 hour = 3: 1: 2
