( x³ + 4x² - x - 4)/( x² +3x - 4)
numerator : (x³ + 4x² - x - 4)
= x³ -x + 4x² - 4
= x(x² -1) + 4(x² -1)
= (x +4)(x² -1)
= (x + 4)(x - 1)(x + 1)
denominator : (x² + 3x - 4)
= x² + 4x - x - 4
= x(x + 4) -(x + 4)
= (x - 1)(x + 4)
now, put this in above expression.
(x +4)(x -1)(x + 1)/(x -1)(x + 4)
=(x + 1)
numerator : (x³ + 4x² - x - 4)
= x³ -x + 4x² - 4
= x(x² -1) + 4(x² -1)
= (x +4)(x² -1)
= (x + 4)(x - 1)(x + 1)
denominator : (x² + 3x - 4)
= x² + 4x - x - 4
= x(x + 4) -(x + 4)
= (x - 1)(x + 4)
now, put this in above expression.
(x +4)(x -1)(x + 1)/(x -1)(x + 4)
=(x + 1)
