in equation (i)

x - 5y = 10

x = 10 +5y

in equation (ii)

3x + y = 6

y = 6 - 3x

in (i) [putting the value of y]

x = 10 + 5 ( 6 - 3x)

x = 10 + 30 - 15x

x = 40 - 15x

16x = 40

x = 5/2

in (ii) [putting the value of x]

y = 6 - 3 \times 5/2

y = 6 - 24/3

y =  - 3/2
