Question:

Complete the following activity to solve the simultaneous equations.

y = 3x - 5   -----(I)

2x - 6y = 8   -----(II)

Step-by-step explanation:

y = 3x - 5   -----(I)

2x - 6y = 8   -----(II)

Putting the value of y in (II) we get

⇒ 2x - 6(3x - 5) = 8

⇒ 2x - 12x + 30 = 8

⇒ -10x = 8 - 30 = -22

⇒ x = 22/10 = 2.2

Now,

Putting the value of x in (I) we get

⇒ y = 3(2.2) - 5

⇒ y = 6.6 - 5

⇒ y = 1.6
