multiply eqn (1) by 18 & eqn(2) by 4

108x-32y=888.................(4)
subtracting eqn (4) from (3)
662y=3972
y=3972/662
y=6
substitute y=6 in eqn(1)
6x+35y=270
6x+35(6)=270
6x+210=270
6x=270-210
6x=60
x=60/6
x=10
