The Answer is:

The Journey is a story on the importance of human relationships. It depicts the feelings of a parent and his son for one another.

The son is getting ready to return to work after a six-month hiatus to celebrate his marriage. He finds it difficult to lug his trunk up the hilly route. When the father notices this, he takes on the duty of doing so. While waiting at the bus stop, the father quietly asks his son if he has a spare pair of old sneakers. The boy suddenly discovers that his father has been strolling barefoot the entire time.

He gives his father money to buy new shoes, but the latter politely declines and insists on wearing old shoes. Finally, the son gives his father his hunting boots.

The thoughts of the son would be:

  • How could I have been so careless! It never occurred to me that my father had aged. He can no longer walk such a large distances with the weight of my trunk. Worse yet, he is barefoot.
  • I spent six months at home, enjoying my parents' incredible hospitality and devotion, but I never considered their comfort. How self-centered of me.
  • I was really embarrassed today when my father requested for a pair of sneakers.
  • I noticed his stooped figure as he left the tea store. He walked with a limp. His legs were cracked and rough.
  • He couldn't fit into my old shoes since they were too tiny for him. I apologise for not paying attention. Please forgive me, God.
