the ancient mariner had killed the bird even when the bird had done nothing to hurt them. this sin followed the mariner his entire life. they were left on the sea when the sun was high up on their heads and the boat started shrinking. slimy creatures would be seen floating and green fumes came out of the sea as if they were in the devil's home. everybody on the boat started accusing the mariner and they had the albatross hung around his neck. even when he had reached the shore and he met the man going to the wedding, he had to tell the story and this was to continue his entire life
