Proceed like this...
[tex]sin ^{2} (\frac{45}{2}) \\ \\ (sin \frac{45}{2} )^2 \\ \\ [/tex]
Using the formula we get .. sin \frac{A}{2} =  \sqrt{ \frac{1-cosA}{2} }

\sqrt{ \frac{1-cos45}{2} } ^2
 \frac{1-  \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}  }{2}
 \frac{ \frac{ \sqrt{2} -1}{ \sqrt{2} } }{2}
 \frac{ \frac{2- \sqrt{2} }{2} }{2}
 \frac{2- \sqrt{2} }{4}
