sinA+sin^2A=1
sin^2A=1-sinA
then
cos ^2A+cos^4A
=(1-sin^2A)+(1-sin^2A)^2
={1-(1-sin A)}+{1-(1-sinA)}^2
=sinA+sin^2A
=1
