Since oil floats on water, does it mean if I apply it beneath my shoes I can walk across a pond or a lake (without drowning, ofc)?

The force of surface tension of some oils is less than surface tension of water. When such oils are dropped on the surface of water and as such they spread uniformly on water. <br> In the case of other oils, whose surface tension is equal to or greater than that of water, they float as drops on water.

Answer:
it's useless oil is less dense than water that is why they can flow but you can't because our density is more than water that is why if we pour oil under our shoes we can't walk.
