Here is your answer
Divide by sinx we get
sinx \div sinx + cosx \div sinx =  \sqrt{2} cosx \div sinx \\ 1 + cotx =   \sqrt{2} cotx \\  \sqrt{2} cotx - cotx = 1 \\ cotx( \sqrt{2}  - 1) = 1 \\ cotx = 1 \div ( \sqrt{2}  - 1)
