Sir Charles Metcalf is considered the liberator of the press because he executed liberal policy towards the Indian press though being a non-Indian. This led to the freedom of the press that came into effect from September 15th, 1835.
Explanation:
Sir Metcalf was a colonial administrator and also held the position of Governor-general of India.
This liberal policy was not mercifully welcomed and was opposed making him a victim of politics in England. Soon he was succeeded by Lord Auckland in 1836.
