Sir Edward Thomas was the Minister for civil works in Churchill’s Cabinet. A work tender was advertised by his department, and one of his classmates had filled in the tender. He assured his friend that he would help him get the assignment but the job must be finished on time. Eventually Sir Thomas called to inform him that the work order was ready. The meeting was fixed at 1 p.m. The friend reached six minutes past one. Looking at his watch Thomas asked his secretary to tell his friend that his tender was rejected. The thoroughly shaken friend immediately called Sir Thomas to ask what had happened.”Yes, I have said that because you are six minutes late. It is evident that you would never finish the job on time,” said the Minister.
