Sir Thomas Roe arrived in India in 1614.
He was the Ambassador to the Mughal court, under Emperor Jahangir from 1615 to 1618. He was sent to India mainly with the objective of obtaining protection for the British East India Company's factory, at Surat.
In a short span of time, he became a favourite of Emperor Jahangir and was often seen with him in the Mughal court.
In 1621 he moved to Constantinople, later moving to Sweden and Poland on diplomatic missions.
