Situation:
You are asked by your mother to cook pork nilaga. You have only an ordinary
kettle to use for cooking. She even reminds you to save energy because we are in a
state of pandemic due to covid-19. Saving resources nowadays is a must because
we are not sure of the world's economy. As a student of Physical Science and with
your knowledge of properties of matter in relation to intermolecular forces, how are
you going to perform your task in such a way that energy is not wasted?

Answer:

  • We must use less energy when making meals in this epidemic circumstance.
  • Therefore, as a physical science student, I would put pork in the pot, cover it with a plate to prevent steam from escaping, and then cover the entire pot with insulting materials like sand and dirt to prevent heat from escaping into the environment.
  • And as the water begins to boil, I will burn beneath the pot. Later, when the steam pressure rises and the intermolecular force increases within the pot, food will cook more quickly than usual and less energy will be lost in the process.
