Given:

Total number of friends = 6

Amount contributed = Rs. 150

Contribution by sixth person = Rs. 40

To Find:

The total bill value

Solution:

Let the money spent by sixth person be = Rs. x

Now five of them pay Rs. 150 each

Total money spent = 150 × 5 + x

= 750 + x

Now,

The 6th person spent Rs. 40 more than the average expenditure of all six.

Therefore -

x = Average of all six + 40

x = Total Amount/ Total people + 40

x = 750 + x/6 + 40

x = 750 +x + 240/6

6x = 990 + x

5x = 990

x = 990/5

198

Total money spent = 750 + 198

=  948

Answer: The total bill value is Rs. 948.
