Given : The wife’s score is 63, and the husband’s score is 59.

Overall, the mean score for divorced women on this test is 60 (SD = 6), the mean score for divorced men is 55 (SD = 4).

To Find : Which of the two has adjusted better to the divorce in relation to other divorced people of the same gender

Solution:

z score = ( value - Mean)/SD

SD = Standard Deviation

For z score (tables are attached )

The wife’s score is 63,

mean score for divorced women on this test is 60

SD = 6

Z score of Wife = ( 63 - 60)/6  =3/6 = 0.5

She is better than 69 % people

husband’s score is 59

mean score for divorced men is 55

SD = 4

Z score of Husband = ( 59 - 55)/4  =4/4 = 1

He is better than 84 % people

As Husband is better than 84 % people and Wife is better than 69% people

Hence Husband has adjusted better than Wife to the divorce in relation to other divorced people of the same gender
