Answer: Woman : 29, Son : 5

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the woman's current age be x and that of his son be y years.

First condition gives

(x−2)=3(y−2)2 -(1)

Second condition gives

x+3=4(y+3) -(2)

Substituting equation (2) in (1),

(4y+9)−2=3(y2−4y+4)

∴3y2−16y+5=0

∴3y2−15y−y+5=0

∴(y−5)(3y−1)=0

∴y=5 or y=13

Clearly the only possible solution here is y=5 as the age must be >2.

Thus x=4(5)+9=29

So the present age of woman is 29 yrs and that of child is 5 yrs.
