Answer:

The answer is e) 24 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Assumption: Let the present age of A and B be x and y years respectively.

x - 6 = 7/3 (y - 6)

=> x = 7/3y - 14 + 6

=> x - 7/3y = - 8

=> 3x - 7y = -8 × 3

=> 3x - 7y = -24 ________ equation i

x = 2y

=> x - 2y = 0 _______ equation ii

Elimination method :-

By eliminating x,

eq. i × 1 - eq. ii × 3

3x - 7y = -24

- -3x + 6y = - 0 ( as signs get interchanged)

- y = - 24

=> y = 24

Putting y = 24 in equation ii

x - 2y = 0

x = 2 × 24

x = 48

Therefore, A's age is 48 yrs and B's age is 24 yrs.

The difference between the present age of A and B = 48 - 24 yrs

= 24 yrs
