Step-by-step explanation:

Man's age today = M

Son's age today = S

M+6 = 3 (S + 6)    =>   M = 3 S + 12

M - 3 = 9 (S - 3)   =>  M = 9 S - 24

So  3 S + 12 = 9 S - 24

          6 S = 36

Son's age = 12 years

Fathers age = M = 48 years

____________

Son = y

man = 9y

Now

____

son = y+3

man= 9y+3

6 years ago

__________

son = y +(3+9) = y+12

man= 3×(y+12) = 3y + 36

so, 9y+3+6 = 9y + 9 = 3y + 36

we have to find y.

9y + 9 = 3y + 36

9y = 3y +36-9 = 3y + 27

3y = 9y - 27

9y-3y = 3y+27-3y = 27=6y

y = 27÷6 = 4.5 years

three years ago
