Sixty people are invited to a party. There are 24 cups in a package and 18 napkins in a package. what is the least number of packages of cups an napkin that can be bought if each party guest gets one cup and one napkin

We have:

Total no. of people invited to a party = 60

No. of cups in 1 package = 24

No. of napkins in 1 package = 18

Now, we have to find the least no. of packages of cups and napkin that have to be bought so that the guests equally gets 1 cup & 1 napkin each.  

For this we will first calculate the L.C.M. of 24 & 18 since it is asked to find least no. of packages.

L.C.M. of 24 & 18 = 2 * 3 * 3 * 4 = 72

Now,  

The least no. of packages of cups required = 72/24 = 3

And,

The least no. of packages of napkins required = 72/18 = 4

Thus, we need at least 3 packages of cups & 4 packages of napkins.
