The embryo sac that is present in the plants' ovule is regarded as the female gametophyte.

Let's describe how this embryo sac is formed.

The megaspore which is functional undergoes division by mitotic type and gives 2 nuclei. Again these 2 nuclei divides and forms 4 nuclei and later 8 nuclei.

After this stage of 8 nuclei, the embryo sac gets formed.

Cells gets distributed in the embryo sac. Three cells forms egg apparatus in micropylar end. Antipodals are formed at chalazal end by three cells. And the central cell forms by 2 polar nuclei.
