The larynx commonly called the voice box, is an organ in the top of the neck involved in breathing, producing sound and protecting the trachea against food aspiration.The human beings produce sound by using the voice box which is called larynx. The voice box is situated in our throat at the top of the windpipe. The human voice box contains two ligaments known as vocal cords . Sound is produced by the vibrations of vocal cords.It is a component of the respiratory tract, and has several important functions, including phonation, the cough reflex, and protection of the lower respiratory tract.

• Larynx is responsible for production of sound. It moves when we swallow something. There are two vocal cords inside the Larynx with a small gap between them. This small gap allows air to p@ss through.
When we speak, air is forced into this small gap by the lungs. This prompts vocal cords to vibrate which produces sound.
