Sketch the character of Estella in great expectations
Answers
Answer:
Estella Havisham is the non-traditional heroine in Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens. Orphaned at the age of three, she was raised by Miss Havisham, a wealthy woman who lives in Satis House. Miss Havisham's effect on Estella is mostly negative. Estella is a victim of Miss Havisham's behavior and teaching. Estella does not learn what love is or how to love another person. Rather, Miss Havisham raises Estella to be a heart-breaker who tortures men. Miss Havisham was left at the altar on her own wedding day. After having her own heart broken, Miss Havisham raises Estella to break the hearts of others.
As a result of her upbringing, Estella enters adulthood incapable of showing her emotions and having normal relationships with others. She treats people cruelly and has a generally icy demeanor. Even though she is a beautiful woman, her appearance is overshadowed by her inability to show love. Her beauty cannot overcome her personality and the way she pushes other people away or manipulates them to do as she wishes.
