Padma was a caretaker and companion of Saleem. She was physically strong and she was also a down to earth that kept the Saleem grounded. She was the audience of Saleem’s story where Saleem told Padma, about the growth of India. Padma was very much interested in Saleem’s story that made Saleem to tell a long story to Padma. Padma was illiterate and she was opposite of Saleem. But at the end of this novel, Padma fell in love with Saleem and became his fiance.
