Born Meher-un-Neesa, Nur Jahan (1577 - 1645) was the daughter of Akbar's Grand Vizier.
Nur Jahan was married to an Afghan soldier, when she was 17 years of age. After her husband's early death and five years later, she agreed to marry Salim (emperor Jehangir), the eldest son of Akbar, who was in love with her.
After she became the queen, she was quick to rise up to the occasion and establish herself as a strong-willed and charismatic queen. Since she was well educated, she wielded a very strong influence over the royal court.
