Answer:

Usually in these kind of questions, when the denominators of both the numbers are different, the LCM of the denominators is calculated and the numerators and denominators of the given fractions are modified to change their denominators to the obtained LCM.

Here, this process need not be followed since the denominators of the given fractions match.

When 'n' number of fractions are to be found between any two given numbers, both the numerator and denominator of both the fractions must be multiplied by 'n+1' to get 'n' or more than 'n' number of fractions between the two given numbers.

(1)

Here,

18 \: rational \: nos. \: are \: to \: be \: found \: between \:  \frac{ - 5}{23} and \:  \frac{17}{23}

As we had told, we'll now multiply both numerators and denominators by 19:

 \frac{ - 5 \times 19}{23 \times 19} \:  and \:  \frac{17 \times 19}{23 \times 19}  \\  =  \frac{ - 95}{437}  \: and \:  \frac{323}{437}

(2)

Here,

23 \: rational \: nos. \: are \: to \: be \: found \: between \:  \frac{ - 4}{6} and \:  \frac{1}{6}

As we had told, we'll now multiply both numerators and denominators by 23:

 \frac{ - 4 \times 23}{6 \times 23}  \: and \:  \frac{1 \times 23}{6 \times 23}  \\  \frac{ - 92}{138}  \: and \:  \frac{23}{138}

Hope this helps.

Thanks.
