Correct Question :

Find the range of the values of x and y for which the following holds true :

2x + y ≥ 4

Solution :

The positive side [ The portion on right ] of the line with the equation , y - 2x + 4 = 0

Explaination :

The graph of the inequation is shown in the attachment .

The red zone bounds the region of the Cartesian coordinate planes where the inequality holds true .

We have found two integral values of x and y satisfying 2x + y ≥ 4 lying on the bounding line .

These are :

• x = 2 and y = 0

• x = 0 and y = 4

Let us find the equation of the line passing through these two points .

Slope of line ,

m = ( y2 - y1)/( X2 - X1)

=> [ 4 ]/[ -2 ]

=> -2

By the slope form equation of a line :

y - y1 = m ( x - X1)

=> y = -2( x - 2)

=> y - 2x + 4 = 0

This is the required equation of the line bounding the field of solution .
