3-(x - 5) = y + 2
2(x + y) =4 - 3y

So

2(x + y) = 4 - 3y \\  \\ 2(6) = 4 - 3y \\  \\ 12 - 4 =  - 3y \\  \\ 8 =  - 3y \\  \\ y =  \frac{ - 3}{8}

So will be

x + y = 6 \\  \\ x +  \frac{ - 3}{8}  = 6 \\  \\ x = 6 \times  \frac{ 8}{ - 3}  =  - 16
