Given equation

  • 2x/a + y/b = 2
  • x/a - y/b = 4

Solution

Let x/a = A and y/b = B

So, equation becomes

  • 2A + B = 2 ----(i)
  • A - B = 4 -----(ii)

Adding both the equation

=> (2A + B)+(A - B) = 4 + 2

=> 2A + B + A - B = 6

=> 3A = 6

=> A = 6/3 = 2

Putting the value of A in (ii)

=> A - B = 4

=> 2 - B = 4

=> B = 2 - 4 = -2

Now,

=> A = x/a

Putting the value of A

=> 2 = x/a

=> x = 2a

Again

=> B = y/b

Putting the value of B

=> -2 = y/b

=> y = -2b

\Large{\boxed{\bf{Required\:value\:of\:y=-2b}}}
