Answer:

a)

x + 3y = 5 -------------(1)

4x - 5y = 9 . -------------(2)

multiplying (1) by 4,

=> 4x + 12y = 20 ------------(3)

Subtracting (2) from (3),

=> 4x + 12y - 4x + 5y = 20 - 9

=> 17y = 11

=> y =11/17

=> x = 5 - 3y

=> x = 52/17

b)

3x - 7y + 10 = 0 -------------(i)

-2x + y - 3 = 0 --------------(ii)

multiplying (ii) by 7

=> -14x + 7y -21 = 0 -----------(iii)

Adding (i) and (iii),

=> 3x - 7y + 10 + -14x + 7y -21 = 0

=> -11x - 11 = 0

=> x = -1

=> -2(-1) + y - 3 = 0

=> 2 - 3 + y =0

=> y = 1

c)

20u - 30v = 13 ----------(I)

-10u + 10v = -5 ---------(II)

multiplying (II) by 2

=> -20u + 20v = -10 -----------(III)

Adding (I) & (III),

=> 20u - 30v - 20u + 20v = 13 - 10

=> -10v = 3

=> v = -3/10

=> 10(-3/10) - 10u = -5

=> -3 - 10u =-5

=> 10u = 2

=> u = 1/5
