Number  \: of \:  cakes  \: baked \:  = \:  40

Fraction \:  of  \: cakes  \: sold  \: =  \frac{2}{5}

Number  \: of \:  cakes  \: sold  \: will \:  be :

 \cancel{40} \times \frac{2}{ \cancel{5}}

8 \times 2

 = 16

∴16 cakes were sold out of 40 cakes baked.

Totle cakes were 40 sold = 2/5

so the number of cakes sold are 40*2/5

= 8*2

= 16

so 16 cakes were sold.
