Explanation-:

We have ,

  • x + 3y = 16 as [ Equation 1]
  • 2x -y = 4 as [ Equation 2]

In Equation 1 -:

  • x + 3y =16
  • x = 16 - 3y .

By this -: x = 16 - 3y ____________[3]

Substituting x = 16 - 3y in Equation 2 .

  • Equation 2 = 2x - y = 4 [ x = 16 - 3y]
  • 2( 16 - 3y ) - y = 4
  • 32 - 6y - y = 4
  • -6y - y = 4 - 32
  • -7y = -28
  • y = -28 / -7 [ - sign will eliminated]
  • y = 28 /7
  • y = 4

Therefore,

  • y = 4

Substituting y = 4 in [3]

we get ,

  • x = 16 - 3(4)
  • x = 16 - 12
  • x = 4

Therefore,

  • x = 4

Hence ,

  • The value of x is 4 .
  • The value of y is 4 .
