we have a circle so we can assume the length of the rectangular area as the diameter...so diameteis 12 cm
area of circle is
\pi \: r ^{2}
diameter ÷2 = radius
12÷2=6
therefore area of the circle is
3.14 x 6 x 6
113.04cm sq
so now total area minus rectangular area =
113.4 - area of rectangular portion
113.04cm sq minus 12 x 5
113.04cm sq minus 60cm sq
53.04cm sq is the area of the shaded portion
