The downward movement of water-saturated rocks and mud is termed as a landslide. Although landslides can be caused by different reasons such as earthquakes, floods etc. it is generally characterised by the movement of water-saturated rocky masses.
Landslides are dangerous to both life and property as it destroys everything in its path since it does not travel along a fixed channel. A major reason for a place to become susceptible to landslides is soil erosion or the wearing of soil. This is caused due to deforestation, mining etc.
