Answer:

NOISE POLLUTION, FIND A SOLUTION!

NARRATOR: Good morning! As you all know, today, noise pollution has become a very serious problem, but still we are doing nothing to solve this problem. So here we present a small skit, which will at least make you think, that noise pollution is a problem.

EVERYONE: Noise pollution is a major problem in countries such as India during the festivals of Diwali, Navaratri, and Ganpati. The government of India has regulations against firecrackers and loudspeakers, but enforcement is extremely lax.

You must have celebrated Diwali,

You must have burnt the crackers.

You must have made a lot of noise,

You must have had fun.

Consequences, none!

Just some smoke, and some noise maybe.

Without crackers how could there be,

A start to a great Diwali.

SCENE 1: An old woman comes on the stage.

OLD WOMAN: Oh! So much noise! I have been bearing this noise from a week. I don’t know why, but this noise causes some kind of anxiety and tension. Neither I am able to concentrate on anything, nor am I able to take rest. It feels that now Diwali has become just a festival of making noise and burning crackers. No one cares about older and ill people. Oh God! Help me!

EVERYONE: Noise pollution affects both health and behaviour. Unwanted sound can damage psychological health. Noise pollution can cause trouble, hypertension, high stress levels, tinnitus, hearing loss, sleep disturbances, and other harmful effects.

How can noise affect someone?

Now stop thinking from that side.

One can get a heart attack,

What is dangerous? You decide.

Not alone elders’ problems,

Are nervousness, and anxiety.

Even the children aren’t spared,

How? You yourself see!

SCENE 2: A child comes to the stage.

CHILD: Oh God! What type of noise is that! Why do these neighbours play so loud music? I have not been able to concentrate on my studies since morning. How will I prepare for tomorrow’s exam? I am not being able to memorize anything! Oh God! Someone help me!

EVERYONE: This isn’t only India’s situation. Figures compiled by Rockwool, the mineral wool insulation manufacturer, based on responses from local authorities to a Freedom of Information Act (FOI) request reveal in the period April 2008 – 2009 UK councils received 315,838 complaints about noise pollution from private residences.

It doesn’t let the children read,

It doesn’t let the elders sleep.

It is this noise only,

Behind all these problems.

But what can one do,

When the others don’t understand.

And it’s wastage of the effort,

Of the one who takes the stand!

SCENE 3: Two children come to the stage.

1ST CHILD: That’s enough! Now we won’t suffer!

2ND CHILD: Yes, our studies won’t suffer anymore!

1ST CHILD: Every day they have a party.

2ND CHILD: One day it’s a birthday, the other day, someone’s anniversary. Today, we’ll have to talk.

They go to the neighbour’s house.

NEIGHBOUR: Oh hi! How are you!

1ST CHILD: Not so fine, nowadays!

NEIGHBOUR: Why? What happened? Tell me, maybe I can help!

2ND CHILD: Pardon me! But you are the reason behind our problem.

NEIGHBOUR: Me! Excuse me! What on Earth did I do wrong?

1ST CHILD: Look, we have got tired of this everyday’s noise coming from your house.

2ND CHILD: We are unable to do any work because of this so called music of yours!

NEIGHBOUR: It appears to me that you don’t seem to value music much. Look! I can’t help you. If you are having so many problems, then use cotton plugs for studying. The door is there!

1ST CHILD (TO 2ND CHIILD): Come on; let’s study with cotton plugs in our ears.

EVERYONE: The Environmental Protection Agency retains authority to investigate and study noise and its effect, disseminate information to the public regarding noise pollution and its adverse health effects, respond to inquiries on matters related to noise, and evaluate the effectiveness of existing regulations for protecting the public health and welfare, pursuant to the Noise Control Act of 1972 and the Quiet Communities Act of 1978. In Australia too, burning crackers or playing high music is banned.

Those who celebrate their birthdays

Twelve times a year,

Their houses become nothing but

A source of noise for others’ ear.

But apart from all this,

There is something else, for sure!

Can something big happen,

We want to know, a bit more!

SCENE 4: Two women come to the stage.

1ST WOMAN: Oh God! How did this happen?

2ND WOMAN: What happened? Why are you so worried?

1ST WOMAN: Actually, my sister is in hospital.

2ND WOMAN: Hospital! What happened?

1ST WOMAN: Actually there was some construction work going on near her house. Every day she used to complain about the noise. Suddenly one day she stopped hearing from one ear. I think I should go and meet her.

Both of them go to the hospital.

SISTER: Oh hello! How are you?

2ND WOMAN: Oh hi! First of all you tell us! Are you alright?

SISTER: I am fine! Thank God, there wasn’t much damage to the ear.

DOCTOR: There’s nothing to worry now. She is absolutely fine.

SISTER: But doctor, that noise wasn’t so loud, then why did this happen?
