The frequency of SHM should be nearly equal to 5 Hz.

Given-

  • Amplitude of vertical SHM = 1 cm
  • Mass of object = 50 gram

We know that the mass of the object will remain in contact with the surface in case if

mg = mω²a

So, from the above equation

ω = \sqrt{\frac{g}{a} }

We know that ω = 2πf .So

2πf = \sqrt{\frac{g}{a} }

where f is the frequency

f = 1/2π  \sqrt{\frac{g}{a} }

Substituting the values we get

f = 1/2π √980/1 = 5 Hz
