Small pain in my chest is talking about a war which took place in Vietnam. It is about a solider who has hurt himself badly after fighting bravely for his nation. It describes the horror of the war in many incidences and facts mentioned in the poem. Firstly, it talks about the the pain which he has in his chest. He says that it is just a SMALL pain which demonstrates that he is such a brave solider and still thinks that it can be cured easily. Secondly, it talks about a life of a solider who is so self - sacrificing for his nation and does not care about his own life. He is caring about his family but  while fighting for his nation he does not care about anything and selflessly fights.
