The poem “Small Pain in My Chest”, begins with the meeting of the narrator with a soldier boy, who was sitting under a tree. As the narrator was nearing him, the soldier invited him waving his hand. The narrator then gives us an idea of the battle. He says, it was ‘long and hard’ and ‘lasted through the night’. He also sees a number of bodies lying still on the ground. These are the bodies of the soldiers who had died in the battle.
