Northern plains is formed by the interplay of three major river systems,namely-the indus,the ganga andthe brahmaputra along with their tributaries.this plain is formed of alluvial soil.the plain being about 2400 km log and 240 to 320 km broad.it is a densely populated physiographic division.

⏩ Northern plains of India lies to the south of Himalayas and to the north of Indian peninsula. It is a plain formed by the depositional work of three major river systems viz., the Indus, the Ganga and the Brahmaputra that’s why Northern plain is also known as Indo-Gangetic-Brahmaputra plain.
