The hot food it means food is cooked at high temperature and the vapours is coming out very rapidly....this vapours contains water, smells of masale, etc. now as these vapours has high kinetic energy due to high temperature these vapours vibrates very fast and spread all over the surroundings...

The smell of food increases as the distance from your kitchen decreases....also your hungerness increase... Hahahah.....:)

When food is hot, diffusion is more. But in cold food diffusion is slow. Hence to get the smell from cold food we have to go close.
