It is the story of 2 naughty boys. They had a habit of throwing things in an empty well when they passed by that well. Once, their brother gave them some letters to be posted. On the way to post office, they went near that well. As usual, they started throwing things into the well. Accidentally, they threw the letters also to it. They knew that there was a poisonous snake in it. When they looked down, they saw that the letters are in-front of the snake. They had two options before them ; either lie to their brother that they posted the letters or take the letters from the well. They feared that their brother would punish them if he come to know the truth. So they decided to risk their lifes & get the letters from well. One of them went down to the well. He was right in-front of the snake. He threw a stone to the other side to distract the snake. When it moved to other side, he suddenly took the letters & came out. This was a lesson for them.

Answer:

The article 'Smriti' composed by Pt. Shriram Sharma is a memorial article, which is based on the story of adventure and hunting. It is compiled from a book titled 'Shikar' written by Pt. Shriram Sharma in which the author narrates a thrilling incident of his childhood. In 1908, in the month of December or January, at half past three or four in the evening, while the writer was eating plum  with his younger brother, he (the writer) was called by his elder brother. The writer was terrified of being beaten up, but Bhai Sahab gave the writer letters in the Makkapur post office which were very important. The writer went with his younger brother with his poles and mother's gram. The author kept the letters in his hat as his kurta did not have pockets. On the way, the two brothers reached the well which was raw and in which there was a very black snake. Every day, the writer and his friends used to throw coal lumps (dhela)in the well and used to like the phooskar sound the snake makes.. Even today, the writer woke up to the desire to hear the snake's whisper. The writer took a lump and took off the cap with one hand and dropped it into the well. As soon as the writer took the hat in his hand, all the three letters which were kept in the hat circled and fell into the well. Despair and fear of being beaten, the two brothers sat on the well's corner and wept. The writer felt that the mother would come and hug and say nothing or lie at home, but the author did not know to lie and was afraid of being beating up when he told the truth, then the writer decided to enter the well and take out the letters. The author tied his and brother's dhotis and rope and tied the rod at one end of the rope and put it in the well and the other end with the deng of the well and himself entered the well with the help of a dhoti. From a height of four to five yards from the ground in the well, the writer saw that the snake was ready to face him with the Phan . The writer had to get down on the ground of the well to kill the snake and take the letters because the letters fell there. As the writer descended, his mind continued to converge. The diameter of the raw well is less, so there was not enough space to stand there. Then the writer decided not to disturb the snake. The writer tried to move the letters with the pole and the snake hissed and bit the stick. The writer made a second attempt and the snake clung to the pole. The snake's pose changed as the poles drew towards the writer and the writer chose envelopes and postcards. The writer tied the letters with a dhoti, which the younger brother pulled up and lifted the stick and climbed it up with the help of hands. He kept on coming for a while and the boy from Kishanpur who saw him climbing up told him not to tell anyone about this incident. After passing matriculation in 1915, the author narrated the incident to his mother and the mother hid the writer in his lap.
