Explanation:

Seema, a Gandhi Fellow (GF) has been visiting schools regularly, as part of field

support activity, which includes interaction with Headmasters, Teachers, and

students, to understand students’ learning process. During one of her visits to a

particular school, Seema observes that a few students had absented themselves

for 2-3 days, every week. On enquiring about these students, she is given to

understand that the absentees have been regularly complaining of ill-health.

Seema visits the houses of these absentees, to get a better understanding of the

stated problem. The children had symptoms of frequent headaches, fever, and

weakness etc. Accordingly, she met the Block Education Officer (BEO), to also

understand if these problems were prevalent in other schools as well. The BEO

mentioned that the problem is attributable to inadequate nutrition intake, which

more or less is prevalent in the underprivileged section of the communities. On

enquiring further, she was also given to understand that the routine medical

check-up of students had also not been reinitiated post COVID. In addition, even

the Pink and Blue tablets of IRON and FOLIC acid (IFA), had not been supplied.

Subsequently, Seema visits the Primary Health Center (PHC) and meets the

Medical Officer in Charge (MOIC), to discuss this situation. The MOIC informs

her that the symptoms point towards anemia but can also have other reasons.

He also added that the IFA tablets had been received by the PHC, which will be

distributed at the earliest. However, the MOIC and the BEO have requested your

support to understand this problem at a holistic level, which may include (but

not limited to) the following aspects:

(a) Details of ongoing campaigns/interventions etc.

(b) School-level interventions

(c) Community-level interventions

(d) Roles of various stakeholders at the district/block/panchayat level.
