Given : Sneha invested Rs.75,000 in equity shares of Rs. 10 F.V. and market value of Rs. 85 each After receiving 15% dividend she sold all the shares at Rs.70 each. She paid brokerage of 1.5% on both the transaction.

To Find :   her profit or loss.

Solution:

Sneha invested Rs.75,000

MV = 85 Rs

brokerage of 1.5%  = (1.5/100)85 = 1.275 Rs

Shares bought =   75000/ (85 +  1.275)  = 869.313

15% dividend  on FV 10   = (15/100)10 =  Rs 1.5

Dividend = 869.313 x 1.5 = 1,303.97  Rs

Sold for Rs 70

Brokerage Paid = 1.5 % = (1.5/100)70  = 1.05 Rs

Received per share =  70 - 1.05 = 68.95 Rs

Shares sold  for = 869.313 x  68.95  =     59,939.14 Rs

1,303.97 + 59,939.14   = 61,243.11 Rs

Loss = .75,000 -  61,243.11   = 13,756.89  Rs

Answer:

The loss incurred is of Rs. 13,756.89.

Explanation:

  • Case I (Purchase) :

Total amount invested (Purchasing) = Rs 75,000

F.V. = Rs 10

M.V. = Rs 85

Dividend = 15 %

Brokerage rate = 1.5 % (On both the transaction)

Purchase price of 1 Share = M.V. + Brokerage rate

➠ 85 + 1.5% of 85

\tt{85+   \dfrac{1.5}{100}} \times 85

➠ 85 + 1.275

➠ 86.275

Purchase price of 1 Share = Rs 86.275

No. of Shares purchased =

\tt{\dfrac{Total \: Investment}{Purchased \: price \: of \: 1 \: share}}

\tt{\dfrac{75,000}{86.275}}

➠ 869.3132

No. of Shares purchased = 869.3132

  • Case II (Selling) :

M.V. = Rs 70

Brokerage Rate = 1.5 %

Selling Price of 1 Share = M.V. - Brokerage

➠ 70 - 1.5 % of 70

\tt{70 - \dfrac{1.5}{100} \times 70}

➠ 70 - 1.05

➠ 68.95

Selling price of 1 Share = Rs 68.95

Selling price of all Shares = 869.3132 × 68.95

➠ 59,939.14514

Selling price of all Shares = Rs 59,939.14514

Total dividend = Rate of dividend × F.V. × No. of Shares

\tt{\dfrac{15}{100}  \times 10 \times 869.3132}

➠ 1,303.9698

Total dividend = Rs 1,303.9698

Loss = Purchase Price (Investment) - (Sale + Dividend ) =

➠ 75,000 - (59,939.14514 + 1,303.9698)

13,756.89

.°. The loss incurred is of Rs. 13,756.89.
