This is because a snowshoes has a greater surface area in contact with the snow due to which there is less pressure on the snow. Due to this the snowshoes do not sink much in soft snow and it is easy to walk on it. On the other hand, an ordinary shoe has a small surface area in contact with the soft snow and so exerts a greater pressure on the snow. Due to this greater pressure, the ordinary shoes tend to sink deep into the snow making it difficult for the wearer to walk on the snow.

The reason is you're distributing your weight across a larger area, reducing the pressure you put on the snow pack. After all, pressure is force over a unit area. When you increase the area, you reduce the pressure.......✌✌
