Given  : snowy leaves his house walks along a straight road towards a market. After 5 minutes it starts raining and so he stays there for 2 minutes and then returns home.

position as a function of time is shown

To Find :  a) How far was he from home when it started raining?

b) Identify the position of the graph, where he was waiting for the rain to stop.

c) What is his displacement in 10 minutes?

d) He returned home with great speed. Is this statement true?

Solution:

He was 0.6 km from home when rain started

position of the graph, where he was waiting for the rain to stop.

is  0.6 km  from ( 5 min to 7 min )

displacement in 10 minutes = 0 as he returns to same position

He returned home with great speed. YES this statement true

as Speed while going =  0.6/5  =   0.12 km/min     ( 5 - 0 = 5)

Speed while returning = 0.6/3   =   0.2 km/min   ( 10 - 7 = 3)
