Soap is sodium and potassium salts of long chain carboxylic acids which reacts with the calcium and magnesium salts of the hard water to form an insoluble curdy precipitate known as sccum.

Soap form the pricipitate in water due to micelle formation in which hydrophobic part of soap joint o4 bonded to oil or any dirt hydrophillic part.
