soaps did not foam propery in water of the well

It must be hard water. Must be containing Ca+ or Mg + ions. The thing is soap in water splits into na+ and the organic part become anion. If there are calcium and magnesium salts in the water too then the salt will split into ca+ and Mg+ ions too...The Na+ ions being more reactive, will do a double displacement reaction with the magnesium or calsiym salt and the calcium and magnesium ions on the other thanks will form salts with the organic anion. And this ,will lead to the formation of insoluble calcium and magnesium salts of long Chan organic acids which are insoluble and does not form lather.
