Pulakeshin II was the most famous Chalukyan ruler. He defeated Harsha and checked his advance into the Deccan. Pulakeshin II also raided the territories of the Pallavas. He defeated the Pallava king Mahendravarman I. Pulakeshin II sent an embassy to the court of Khusrao II, the king of Persia, which strengthened the ties of friendship between these two kingdoms. The Chalukyas became weak after the death of Pulakeshin II. The Rashtrakutas replaced them.

Pulakeshin II (610-642 CE) is the most famous ruler of the Chalukya dynasty. In his reign the Chalukyas of Badami saw their kingdom extend over most of the Deccan. Pulakeshin had to face several obstacles soon after his coronation.
